thought meter

i was thinking today that i need a device that measures my thoughts so i can figure out what exactly it is that i think about all day. how much time do i really spend thinking about this or that? maybe i'll find out that i spend less time than i actually think, thinking about certain things. maybe i should spend more time on other things? a thought meter would gauge this well.

Hero

I'm such a sucker for tragic love stories. Throw a little kung fu in and it's even better. I was loaned a copy of Hero with Jet Li and Maggie Cheung and I let it sit in my purse for a few days for I was warned it was sad. I finally popped it into the DVD today and watched it. I could swear that they soundtrack is partly stolen from Crouching Tiger...but I think the same people were involved with making it. The film is gorgeous. It's sort of like Kurosawa's Rashomon but bigger, brighter and in colour. The scenes are gorgeous, Maggie is so pretty, and the story is complex. The film starts out one way and ends out entirely differently. I can't wait to see it on a big screen.

Also saw Farenheit 9/11 with Milla tonight, we enjoyed it. It was cleverly made but maybe just a little too long. It was hilarious at the end with Dubya couldn't quote "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me". It wasn't a tragic love story, it was just tragic.

day of delights

i woke up from my all night cleaning frenzy when Adam called around 11:45. That was my warning call to get dressed and that he was almost here. I caught about 5 minutes of Queen Latifa on the View and she delighted me with her wit and intelligence. When Adam came he showed up with beer and an Entertainment Weekly for me...it had my hubby Christian Bale on the cover!

as i flipped through my new magazine Adam whipped out his new Xbox game. Driv3R...which i think is actually called Driver 3 but i could be wrong. I ignored him until i noticed that the driving bits of the game were actually kind of fun. After 3 or 4 hours of Driv3r we decided it was too late to go to Yorkdale so we went for a walk on Queen Street, then returned home to play a few more hours of Xbox.

later in the evening I met up with Boston, who is home and all tanned from his vacation. Sadly (for us) Milla had a date so we must put off the reunion of the trio for a couple more days.

lame!

apparently i have new neighbours and they are totally lame! they made a noise complaint! the concierge came up and asked me to turn down my music! It has been years and years since I've had a complaint. Everyone is used to it. I put up with the person upstairs who sounds like they riverdancing and never lifts their chairs when they pull it out from the table. I put up with the klutzes next door who seem to be always banging into the walls. Playing my The Stills at 30 (max is 50...but i rarely listen past 45) at 2am has never been a issue. until tonight. Coincidentally the people moved in yesterday. do you think they are just sick of hearing Canadian rock?

weekend recap

i was asked to blog. i wanted to whine...but fish hasn't blogged for longer? can i blog when he blogs? but i must blog. junky is leaving for the land of everything wonderful, aka Britain today and i should say my word. that being...bring me Boosts and a tube of curry Pringles please! And Skips if you have room. I love those. and shop. shop like there is no tomorrow! much like i did on thrusday.

I saw C this weekend. She was visiting from London (ontario), we officially became old ladies because we bought scratch lottery tickets and sat in the park and played them. On Saturday evening i was reportedly spotted in the company of some anonymous short haired Corporate Stormtrooper. I was asked: what about I.F.? And i replied: Imaginary Friend WAS the Stormtrooper. This was meet by a gasp. Had he defected to the dark side? this remains to be seen.

Sunday was quiet, i woke up at noon (is it noon already?) and i read and ate pizza all day.

danger! Chinese Lady with Credit Card on the Loose!

yes i have accepted that i'm a chinese lady now and no longer just a chinese girl. I have yet to learn that SALE doesn't mean FREE and the sales lady at Aritzia wasn't about to explain that to me.

to repent for my sins i've decided to devote the rest of the afternoon to organizing my clothes. As soon as I try on my purchases.

is it noon already!

i know i have used this title, several times over. but it is funny. at least to me. I woke up to the phone ringing today, when i answered it was Milla, which meant that it must have been past noon because she was home for lunch. How did I sleep 3 hours past my regular wake up time? Maybe it was becuase I stayed up until 5am writing? Or maybe I expended too much energy by leaving my square (Bloor to Front St., Bathurst to Yonge St.) for too long. Maybe I just need to be recharged.

bridesmaid's dress

today i get to try on as many purple dresses as i can try on. i hear that bridesmaid's dresses aren't all that bad these days. Being a child of the 80s all I can see when i hear bridesmaid is a pouffy seafoam green monstrosity. It is my job as a bridesmaid to look hideous to make sure that the bride looks even better. Purple will do just the job for me. I look sickly in that colour. yellow and purple don't match.

oh my god. this reminds me. i need to start on my speech!

joy riding

sunday morning/afternoon.

so there were the keys to the Saturn.

there is me and Milla standing and staring at the keys.

the owner of the car is AWOL. After a few drinks and other substances...we had parted ways on saturday night...now at noonish he was still missing.

the weekend Ikea plans had fallen through.

hmmmm...2 girls, nothing to do, 1 free car, a set of keys?

what to do?

go joyriding to Ikea in your friend's mother's Saturn whilst suffering from the after effects of a saturday night?

or

stay home and nap like a sellout who makes grow up decisions.

bangers & mash & the big unit

Went out for brunch with Junky today. We went to the pub and dined on pubfare. I had my regular bangers and mash. Junky had the fish and chips. I was fasmished and ate the whole plate! Then while we were looking at magazines in Indigo (meant to check out the Hello! and Now for better pics of David Beckham's hair cut) we ran into B-rock and old friend from BR. He updated me on all the happenings at the old meat grinder. Later B-rock and I were walking through the mall and he spotted Randy Johnson

I wanted to flash a picture but my movement was slow. I was bewildered as to why a national league pitcher would be in an american league town. we both walk quicker to flash a pic on the digi cam and then pause as we both seem to realise at the same time that randy johnson is an ass and we didn't want to get the shit kicked out of us. as we slowed another man approached him and asked for his autograph and a picture. randy said no picture and signed something for him. the man took a picture anyways. randy johnson swung at his camera with his giant arm. then yelled at the man. b-rock and i ran away quickly.

side note: we also saw Heather Graham dining on queen street yeseterday.

vaccinations are good

I was just reading this article and I got to pissed and threw the magazine across the room. Stupid stupid people! vaccinations are good not bad! I don't really think that people realize how far the (western world) has come in the matter of disease control. With West Nile and Ebola and SARS now we forget that other infectious diseases were just as life threatening. I know many adults...wait i'm an adult...i know many older ppl who have minor disabilities because of childhood cases of the mumps, measles, and influenza.

just because a couple of skewed studies have shown that vaccination isn't the best plan of attacked doesn't mean they are right. Anti-vaccination arguments have no basis in fact. It is rumoured that vaccinations are the cause of rising autism rates in children. Show me some facts. Autism continues to rise with or without vaccinations.

Vaccinations however have been proven to work. I am 24, none of my peers have had mumps or measles let alone deal with the potentially fatal side effects of them. While parents sit in the Western world believing the postmodern posturing of some theorists little children in third-world countires are dying of these and other preventable diseases. It is a fact in the thrid-world that you may have to deal with the death of your child before they even reach puberty because of these diseases.

don't be stupid. vaccinate your children. postmodernity has opened people's eyes. It has made society more critical and more objective, but now we seem to think that this other side that we're seeing is better or right. The mentality of the new being an improved version of the old dominates. People are eager to run with these agendas, thinking that they are freeing themselves from old political agenda, from conservatism, from The Man. Anti-vaccination is just another agenda and postmodernity has passed us by. jump on the critical reasoning train with me and get your kids vaccinated. Seek the truth. It's an advantage not a threat.

thus ends my early morning rant.

infomercial

i'm sort of reading, sort of drifting off into sleep when i notice the infomercial on tv. it's a dating service for 'attached' people. I'm not sure what I think of this. My first instinct was: this is twisted. Attached people should find their own dates (if they so choose). Not go to agency. That just makes it extra wrong. You get 200 karma points off not just 100. Don't ask me how the points work. I'm just making this up as I go along.

good mood?

it's quiet a lovely day outside, the jackhammers are hammering, window washers are cleaning my building, new plates to organize in the kitchen. wonderful day. and for once i'm not being sarcastic.

i think these odd feelings I'm having are indications that I'm in a good mood. Is that possible? I haven't been in a good mood since late January!

a*c at 11:19 a.m.

holy crap!

the window washer just woke me up. Holy shit, he scared me...but just for a second. When i realised that it was day and it couldn't be a vampire banging against my window I relaxed. Then I rememberd that I forgot to take the screen off for proper cleaning, so i still have this big dirty blotch on my window. damn. do you think he'll come back down to get it if i yell out the window?

karaoke

Cool morning
I was looking out it was a cold day

Songbird was drinking from a table
But songbird you just flew away

Everybody's gotta feel the weight of death sometime
And find out what it's like to be left behind
Sometimes you don't get a chance to ask where or why

So let it break the magic beauty of your fragile mind
And let it break the magic beauty of your fragile mind

It's not a sign of weakness
When you're searching for the places where the
memories flow

There may come a time when you rearrange and may leave
those memories
You've gotta let them go

Everybody's gotta feel the weight of death sometime
And find out what it's like to be left behind
Sometimes you don't get a chance to ask where or why

Let it break the magic beauty of your fragile mind....

had to hear it

have you ever had to hear a certain track/album so badly that you couldn't get the music out of your head? and when you go look for it, you can't find it and tear your whole house apart looking for it? then the album sounds even better than you thought it would because of all the work you put into finding it.

i had to hear Starsailor's Love is Here. I know it's old but, I had hummed track four to myself a few times already and at about 4:45 am, I was overcome by the urge to listen to that song. The whole album is great, but Lullaby through until well the whole rest of the album is smashing.

purchase of the week

The new Streets album-A Grand Don't Come For Free.

I would like to say a few things about the album. First how do you follow up to Original Pirate Material? You don't, but you make a really good follow up album. I certainly don't like the new disc as much as the old one but it's still great. I like how it tells a little story thru the whole cd. I don't like how it doesn't deal with bigger social issues of being a young person in Britain as much as the first one did. This one deals with more trivial, but also more personal ones. Overall, really good 2nd album.Go buy it. Apparently he is coming to Toronto soon.

highlights:
-Blinded by the lights (track 4), sort of a reprise from the first album.
-Fit but you know it (track 7). You can check the video at the site.

the hospital

i have decided that the hospital is where pregnant (and possibly in labour) women congregate. I don't know why this didn't occur to me sooner. You have never seen me run faster than today. Away from a prego lady having contractions. First of all. Why are you standing in the lobby? Should you not be in a room having a c section? Second, why run to me? Do i look like a medical professional?

any how. i forgot my appointment was near lunch time. so not only did i venture out of my house, but i interacted with more ppl than nessicary. this is it for my day. this counts as errands for today. Fish said that it might even count as two!

Lost weekend

Adam asked me yesterday on the phone what I did this weekend.

Adam: What did you do this weekend?
me: I saw you.
A: that was Wednesday.
me: are you sure?
A: Yeah. We were supposed to see a movie.
me: Oh yeah. I remember I went to sleep after you left and woke up on friday.
A: okay. So that still doesn't account for the weekend.
me: no you're right. It doesn't.
A: So what did you do?
me: I don't know. Leave me alone. I'm still jet lagged.
