Year in Review

On the last day of the year I wanted to write a year in review, but it’s all here in the blog archives anyways. If it weren’t for this blog and my photosite I woulnd’t remember anything! This year seemed to fly by, but now looking back on it, it feels like it’s been forever. I was born in the year of the monkey, 2004 marked my second cycle on this earth, and about this time last year I was warned that when it is your year, that things might be difficult...and difficult they were!

Significant events:
-Douchebag leaving me, coming back, leaving me, and coming back again
-Char and Kev’s engagement on Feb 12th
-Junky finishing her higher education
-C moving off to England to persue post-graduate work
-me being unemployed the whole entire year
-recieving my first marriage proposal from Huntington
-falling in love with Thailand
-visiting my fam in Taiwan for the first time in 10 years
-watching Jeopardy religiously--waiting for Ken to lose

This year seemd to go in cycles, the beginning of it was pretty gloomy, I was depressed about a lot of things, then the trip to Asia perked me up an and set up a great summer, I had a magnificent summer fling, and an abundance of friends to chill with. I finally started getting my house in order in the way I wanted it. Then came September, there was a mass exodus of friends and lovers, and lots of doubt and confusion, but it all seems to be on the up and up again.

Books:
His Dark Materials Trilogy-Philip Pullman
The Alchemist- Paulo Coelho
The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson
The Bell Jar- Sylvia Plath
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-Hunter S. Thompson
The Chinese in America- Irish Chang
The Diceman- Luke Reinhart

This year my love of music was renewed thanks to Douchebag who brought me tons of music to create to, and to Huntington who continued my musical education, by forcing me to listen to a lot of artists that I hadn’t listened to before. Huntington also got me in the mindset that as a writer I was an artist and that gave me a lot of confidence in my work. Milla and Ruby are always very encouraging when I read the half finished works.

Concerts I attended:
Starsailor
Pilate
The Hives
Buddhist Choir

I have also learned this year that I am exremely resilient and resourseful. I’ve become more disciplied (although I’m still working on that), and less high strung. I had a lot of great times with Milla and Ruby, and I’m lucky to have them so close to me! I’m also lucky to have such understanding friends, who have stuck by me thru the ups and downs of this year. Those not so understanding ones might have fell off the boat, but I feel a whole lot better with their extra weight gone.

Most often quoted in my blog:
-Simpsons
-Emily Dickinson

Ok, we’re getting to the juicy part now, the boys. Douchebag made me grow up so much. Keanu was so nice and sweet and made me realise that I was a nice person and ppl liked me (although I didn’t end up liking him). Huntington was the most amazing summer fling a girl could ask for. Dodgeball gave me hope that not all the men out there are the same, but i forget who said it (prolly Russ), beware the ones that advertise that they are different. LOL. But Dodge was different, he was too good for me.

Another thing learned, if I cancel a date by txt mst, it would be a good indicator that the relationship is doomed. Another is that I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me. Sure I’ve got the degree under my belt, but now I’ve got to put it to good use! There is another clliche that I want to use here, but can’t think of it now.

Albums:
Sam Roberts- We Were Born in a Flame
Starsailor- Love is Here
Frou Frou- Details
The Pixies- Dolittle
Kanye West- The College Dropout
Richard Ashcroft- Human Conditions
Muse-Absolution
The Stills- Logic Will Break Your Heart
The Streets- A Grand Don’t Come for Free
The Black Keys- Thickfreakness
Zero7- When It Falls

Oh my gosh, this post is so long and it is so disjointed. I guess it’s a good representation of my 2004! Happy New Year everybody.

Tsunami

I have been obsessively gathering info about the quake/tsunami for the past few days. My dad finally yelled at me this morning when I reported the death toll, which I do everytime i log on. On the plane over from Chi-town I was sitting next to this lady who was on her way to Sri Lanka for a 3 week vacation. She would have arrived the day before the quake. I hope she is alright. She seemed really cool, she was in her late 30s, a lawyer in the music industry, she was unmarried, and happy and travelled around a lot...both for work and for pleasure. She had choosen Sri Lanka becuase she had not been there and thought it would be a good destination. We never exchanged names becuase we thought we were just single-serving friends.

Cruisin'

My dad and I hit the local gambling house just after lunch and made a few buck to go shopping. I have been to many casinos, but never have I seen these little carts that serve as tables for not just drinks...but food! People were eating full meals at the poker table! Afterwards we were cruisin thru the mall parking lot listening to some LL in the stereo when out of nowhere someone hits us!!

There was no mark or dent, the guy had backed out of his parking space right into us, and got out of the car right away. He was freaking out cos his clunker had rammed into our Lexus and was so relieved when there was no damage. I found myself a nice Smiths shirt. And my Dad barred me from looking at shoes.

Hail!,

For those of you who don’t already know that my name is Scooby (because of the fact that I am easily spooked), I will tell you this story. Last night during the winter storm, I was afriad to go downstairs to my bedroom, I spent as long as I could in the den opening browser windows with articles about the quake/tsunami to read when I went downstairs. I don’t like thunder, but at this age, I don’t want to be afraid anymore. Finally my parents yelled at me to go to bed, so I went downstairs, hopped in bed and read my articles with little notice of the rain.

Then the hail started, it was like someone was shooting rocks at the house. The bars on my window clunked and clinked witht he sound of the hail hitting it and it was even worse when it actually went through the bars and hit my window. I sat there clutching Mac, telling myself to not go up to my parents, but it just kept on getting louder and louder, finally i got up threw on some pants and a sweater and started charging up the stairs with Mac still in my hands. A big piece of hail strikes the window next to me, and i turn on the light and there is my mom right in front of me. I yell and she laughs at me, and says she was coming down to check on me. We look out the window and the street outside looks like a river! I follow her upstairs to my parents room for a while, where it is even louder becuase they are on the top floor and their bathroom as a skylight.

They laugh at me for being such a baby and then send me back downstairs when the hail subsides and is replaced by rain. I was reluctant to go down becuase it was still thundering, but I made it back to my room. At leas my Scooby moment allowed me to get Mac’s charger--which I had left upstairs.

Winter Storm

As Canadians we pride ourselves on being open minded and undiscriminatory. Now on my msn name I mention that there is a 'winter storm' here in LA and people are asking me: what? is there snow? What happened to us? When did we become so narrow minded. No, there isn't snow! Althought winter storms are still possible in LA, it's not the same thing as a winter storm in Canada, but it is still a storm. The storm here is a ton of rain and high winds, which totally screws the ppl up here becuase they are unprepared for anything but sun, sun and more sun. The whole route home from Las Vegas is totally f'd up, roads have been washed away, there are exremely high winds in the mountains, and low visibility becuase of the winds. And there even is snow in the mountainous areas. So this might not be the storm that I left behind in T.O. but it's still a storm and it's even worse becuase they don't know how to cope here.

Nearly Pooched It!

So after stuffing ourselfs at the buffet my parents and I went our seperate ways (as we usually do in the evenings in Vegas), it was still early and I didn't feel like gambling just yet, but didn't want to be a loser and just head up to my room. So I went to the other casino to sneak a few smokes again (only two) and just walk around and take photos. I couldn't resist Sephora again, which is totally cheaper than the one in the Eaton Centre...then I made my way back home to make back the money that I spent. And instead of making it back I gave it away...then I gave away more...and then more. Then I vowed that the night was young and that I would win it back. I switched tables where it was just me and the blackjack dealer and slowly made my benjamins back. Again I will be vague with the numbers because I was ashamed of myself. But I did end up making it all back and when I hit the mark that I wanted, i grabbed my chips and ran. Now I am once again, up here alone in the room, and not expecting my parents home until much after midnight. I might go back downstairs...since luck is a fickle thing...and so am I! I just want to get the most out of this freaking $10 internet!

I don't want to say...

I don't really want to say how many pairs of shoes I bought today. It was obscene! And I doubt that they are the last pair that I will purchase on this trip for it is only the 26th of the month. I will upload some pictures today.

Christmas in Las Vegas

After a good night at the tables I decided to splurge for the $10 wireless internet in my room this morning, this is the post from last nite:

We arrived in LV this afternoon after a pretty quick drive out. My mom and I hit the Forum Shops in Caesar’s palace, we haven’t visited since they renovated and it was very exciting, there were many many shops that I love...but alas we just window shopped. Instead of hitting the Christmas buffet we got some Chinese food for dinner (my suggestion...I think my parents were shocked) and after dinner we went our seperate ways. It is 1am now and I have no idea where my parents are. I went out to Sephora and did a little bit of shopping. Bummed a smoke off of a nice old lady (I figured it was safe since I was two casinos away), then I went back to Treasure Island (where we are staying) and decided to make the money I spent in Sephora back.

I made it back, and then tripled it and left the table when one of the dealers was making derogetory comments to an Asian lady. She came up to the table with a ton of money and he asked what colour chips she wanted, she didn’t reply immediately becuase she was still yelling at her husband and he just gave her red ones ($5 chips) and she said she wanted green but he didn’t hear her and then she turned back to her husband to continue yelling at him. Then he says to her, sorry I don’t speak Asian. I don’t know whatever, Korean, Chinese. I thought that was so rude and he kept on going on and on to the only other person at the table who wasn’t Asian (the Latino guy next to me)...just muttering away. The lady clearly said she wanted green chips ($25 ones). And what was his issue? My ppl practically keep Vegas in business. This guy should be grateful that we are such compulsive gamblers so that he can keep his job as a black jack dealer. I came back upstairs and put on my favourite Futurama on(Trees Down!)...which just happens to be the Christmas Epi.

Stuck in Chi-town

Since my flight didn’t leave the T Dot until 10am, the time I was supposed to be in Chicago and getting on a plane to LAX, I missed my flight. At one point we were rolling along for so long I thought we were going to drive to Chi-town. No worries though, I found the next flight out in 2 hours, and until then I’ll be lounging in the 1st Class lounge. They almost didn’t let me in but I begged and the nice lady at the front conceeded. She said that I had to be part of the milage plane and it’s my daddy’s but she made an exception.

So I headed striaght for the smoking room and bummed a cigarette off the first person that I saw. He had Marloboro menthols, my Amercian cigs of choice. My day had already hit the turning point when I was admitted into the lounge. When we had landed here in Chi-Town (shout outs to Kanye West), we got stuck behind a plane that had malfunctioned (or else I might have made my flight--which was delayed).

Instead I’m here enjoying my free fruit and snacks and drinks, letting Mac recharge for the flight and possibly bumming more cigs off of ppl. The only thing that sucks ass is that I can’t access the internet. Wireless is availible but it’s not free, you need to be part of this plan to be able to access it...but I think I’ll live!

Craziness!

(I'm actually in LA now)

I’m at T.O’s airport now. I made it here ok the roads were pretty crazy. They have been calling this a storm all night and I keep on thinking, this isn’t a storm. But now I must conceed. It is a storm. It’s nuts out there and I was amazed by how many people were out on the street. There is no internet so I’ll post this as soon as I have an internet connection.

There were no lines here and then I zoomed through customs as well. We just commensurated about the bad weather. My flight was supposed to be on time but apparently the crew isn’t here yet. They are stuck out in the weather. I’m not too worried about making my connection in Chicago. It should be a close call, but chances are that the flight there is delayed too.

I was trying to avoiding smelling like smoke but at the last minute...now that stress levels have been elevated I don’t care. I sat in the smoking area of the bar enjoying my last cig and chillin on Mac. He is all I need to keep me entertained. He’s got everything.

A shout out to Rubes who came over and helped me out this morning when I was panicking about the snow! Thanks!

Winter Solstice

Today was the shortest day of the year. Junky and I confirmed this when we saw the moon out at around 5:15pm. But the solstice was still great, I recieved a few holiday gifts. Merci junky for my books! I lub em! And thanks for trading bags with me, I can't wait to trial pack my 'new' bag.

I also got to dig into Sunday's NY Times today becuase Ruby lent it to me. The magazine had an article on blogging and privacy that was interesting. I'm in the middle of the Eli Manning article now, it's very good writing.

I'm debating wether or not to bring my cds with me on my trip since I will have the ipod waiting for me. I have a lot of music on Mac already and I can put some of my CDs on Mac as well. I just figured out how import them as mp3's.

What the F?

Ok, as much as I love Sephora is there really need to have like 50 people standing in the front of the tiny tiny entrace that they have. First of all they should have made it bigger if they were going to post a security guard, a greeter, and then have your gift wrapping station right there. And the space is so tiny that another worker bee is standing right there enxt to one counter and the other side there is another worker bee standing there. That's a total of at least 6 ppl crowded at the entrance of the store. It was annoying! I felt like I was at football practice dodging dummies.

But I did get in and get out with little hassle, I made it early enough to beat most of the crowd and I got my cousin, who is expecting some stuff that hopefully she can use and the baby and her toddler son can use. I'm pretty low on credit (notice i did not say cash) right now, so I went for the all purpose gift, Mustela baby products, which are quite popular with the grown ups as well. So hopefully the will pull double duty for the babies and my cousins.

Where do the wedding gifts go?

Maybe you guys can answer this for me. I was talking to Char earlier today and I asked her what to do with the wedding gift. Do I sent it to the house before? Do I bring it with me to the reception? What do I do? I'm not purchasing something from the registry (with permission) so I'm not sure what the protocol is. Where does the gift go?

Shopping spree update and more...

My parents called me back to update on their shopping spree status. My parents were horrified to see a pair of pants for $275...so I guess I shouldn't mention how much I pay for my jeans! But my mom did find a pair of Fergamo shoes as well as another pair of 'no name shoes' and some other items. Good for them!

I just ran upstairs to go yell at my upstairs neighbors for being so loud. But when I got there I could hear kids screaming and I didn't want to embarass the folks in front of their kids so I came back down here and wrote a note and slid it under their door. It read:

Hello. I am your downstairs neighbor. Please try to keep it down, you are very loud. Thank you.

Do you think that was polite enough?

Leave it to my Daddy to get me something from my fantasy Dear Santa list. And leave it to my Daddy to do it one better! I'm so f'ing spoiled. He called and mentioned that he bought an ipod. I said, great, he had been saying that he wanted an mp3 player and I sent him some info on the ones that I thought were the best. And then he said, well it's your Christmas present! Hooray! No mini...but even better! I'm so spoiled. No wonder I'm never satisfied with any of my boyfriends. My dad is the best...he is the best +1...no +infinity!

The Tao

I've finished with the mistresses and moved on to my next book The Tao: Finding the way of balance and harmony by Mark Forstater. It's pretty dry and a little boring but i'm supplementing it with stuff that I've been reading on-line. I'm doing it partly out of curiosity and partly becuase it's research for one of my writing projects. It's pretty interesting stuff and is really making me use my brain. There are hard concepts to grasp and you really have to think about it. I'm enjoying using my brain! It's a good reminder that it's still actually there.

Taoism, I think, is a hard subject to write about becuase of the nature of the philosophy. Tao itself is really undefinable...at least that is the way they say it in the texts. It's the power that flows through everything and it is a natural process. Taoism itself is accepting nature and going along with it instead of going agaisnt it. For example, not putting up a Dam to prevent a river from flowing to the ocean. It is not a certain thing and you don't pray to a certain god, rather you look for answers within yourself and with observation.

There are a lot of interesting points to Taoism that seem quite idealistic but at the same time it sounds kind of hokey (to borrow from Han Solo). The key point from my readings so far is that one should aspire to do nothing. I read that and laughed, if that is the case, then I'm the ultimate Taoist! But in nothing they mean, that straining and striving are unnatural...it puts you against the natural flow of things. Instead you're supposed to understand things through the principle of them and shape your actions to them. It's more of an accept your lot and understand how they work sort of idea.

Now I could totally be wrong, reading the stuff makes me feel like i'm reading a million different fortune cookies at once, but behind it there are some lessons that seem to make sense...for the most part. I'm still reading! I leave you all with a quote.

and no i'm not going crazy.

"The Taoist sage has no ambitions, therefore he can never fail. He who never fails always succeeds. And he who always succeeds is all- powerful."

Las Vegas Shopping Spree

My parents are in Las Vegas right now and today my mom has a $500 shopping spree at Norstrom's. I'm not sure how she got it...and there are probabaly stipulations to it but $500 for free sounds pretty good to me! My mom was takign about what to buy she said she had so much junk already that she didn't really need anything. I made a few suggestions. I told her just buy 1 or 2 nice things, don't waste it on little things. Get a nice pair of Manolo's or Jimmy Choos they will last forever, or get a nice cashmere sweater or maybe a set from Le Mer, maybe a nice brooch. I said, you can buy a ton of junk but why not just get a few nice things for yourself. Just spend it. It's not your money. She laughed at me and remarked, for someone who makes no money you sure know how to spend it.

The way my mom is I know she is going to get something cheap for herself, and then somethign for me (that will be way to big becuase she thinks that i'm the size of a freaking jumbo jet), and then some other stuff that she'll want to return. She's too conservative to drop $400-$500 on a pair of shoes...even if it's not her money. My daddy will probably step in and grab something crazy just to make sure she meets the $500 and my mom will yell at him for it. So we shall see. I asked her to report back to me when she was done.

The Legend of Zu

I asked my friend to borrow Hero again earlier this week. I went to go pick it up this afternoon and he had another dvd in there called The Legend of Zu. It was the story of the immortals who live at the top of Zu mountain. The evil entity called Insomnia is coming to destroy them. This time he is more powerful than the last time.

It's kind of confusing at times and the tiny ass subtitles didn't help. Not only did I have to put in my contacts, I had to move closer to the tv...just to see the words! The film was beautiful, the effects are so great and the actors worked well with the effects. They didn't look like they were staring into space. It got kind of tedious at the end because the pacing sort of slows down, and there weren't enough fight scenes. There was too much shooting of their powers from their fingers and not enough hitting and punching and kicking. Otherwise I nice way to spend the afternoon.

Out of the Past

I have a few dreams that are sort of reoccurring and that I vaguely remember. It's not the same dream over and over again but sometimes its the same setting or the same ppl. The settings are sometimes real and sometimes somewhere off in my future. The people are usually ppl I know or have known. I sometimes dream about this guy I went to elementary school with. I didn't have a crush on him or anything but we were friends. I don't know what happened to him after we left elementary school but he keeps on popping up in my dreams from time to time. It's strange. I never recognize him but he always recognizes me. Last night I had one of those dreams. I met him in the mall (the crappy mall behind my old house) and we were in search of some artifact or something. I don't know! It was wierd! I don't know why he keeps on popping up in my dreams. He never meant anything to me, and we never hung out besides school. But here is Justin more than 10 years later! Anyone have an explination?

Dear Santa version 2.0

Ok, all luxury items aside, here are the things that I actually would like for the Christmas season. Nice huh? Only thinking of myself!

1. Protein-I need protein, steak, lamb souvlaki, korean bbq, anything! I look so pale!

2. Fresh air- I had a freak out right now tryign to go to bed. It felt so stuffy in my bedroom and I wanted some fresh air. I opened the window and there was no breeze and I could only hear my drunken neighbors talking loudly as they made their way home.

3. A winter jacket- All of mine now too big. The only one that fits is my navy parka and I don't like it becuase it looks to short on my body and doesn't cover as much arm as I would like.

4. My skates sharpened- they are in serious need.

5. Cable- now that I'm watching tons and tons of TV I am unsatisfied with my 2 somewhat clear channels, and 3 not so clear channels.

6. A storage room- for all the shit that is piled up in my house.

A History of Mistresses

So I have been sticking to the non fiction lately. It follows with my trend of sticking to reality instead of getting lost in fantasy. I had purchsed A History of Mistresses at the same time as The Chinese in America, and like that book I started it and put it down. It began a little slowly, but from where I picked up (chapter 3: Whose Whore? Europe's Royal Mistresses) it started to become jucier and jucier. I haven't been able to put it down now, despite the fact that it is incredibly depressing.

It really gives an insight into society and how 'relations' were conducted through history. The stories are complex, which is a given since the nature of the book. It's titillating becuase you're reading stories about things that are supposed to be scandalous and secretive. At the same time it's so sad and so depressing. There are hardly any happy endings, it's chock full of pain, angst, love, power and other emotions. I get really tired just reading, but I keep on wanting to know what happens next.

Dear Santa

Keeping with the spirit of the season (consumerism) I have compiled my fantasy Christmas Wishlist.

1. I was torn btwn the classic monogram and this season's 'it bag' and in the end I choose the it bag, Louis Vuitton Trouville (in white) because I liked the shape. I also think it would go nicely with the S Lock Bracelet.

2. I saw the ad for the new Clean fragrance in a magazine and I got to smell it at the new Sephora in my mall. Clean Provence smells like those cute little decorative soaps.

3. Chloe cocktail dress. A variation on the little black dress. Think of all the accessorizing possibilities!

4. Gold ipod mini. No engraving needed.

5. As if I don't already have enough gold shoes (two pairs and counting), these Sue London gold ballet flats are too cute to resist.

6. I don't know what Borba Clarifying Water is, and I don't know if it works or not, but the packaging looks cool and it comes in exciting colours. I've tried everything else for my acne so one more thing won't hurt.

New Crush

I'm hesitant to deem him my new husband because I don't know if he is already married...but i have a crush on Kelly from The Apprentice. He looks way better in action than he does in photos. Anyhow...the show is still on...it's way too long. I've only watched maybe 3 or 4 episodes of The Apprentice..but in each one he stuck out because he held the door open for the ladies, he wasn't all crazy and yelling, and he knew when to talk and when not to. He is a little wooden and not so charismatic. But he's smart and he's a gentleman. I was excited to see that he was a finalist today and that he won!

bon voyage, get well, and ect...

Milla I hope you have a good trip! Remember the plan of attack: smile and nod. plan b: start a blog and vent your frustrations

Poor Junky could not make it down for the sleepover so we have postponed it to a further date. I hope you're feeling better! Did you at least get your boots?

Tonight I heard the sound of skates scraping across the ice. It was so hot. I didn't realise how much I had missed the sound and it made me realize the fact that winter has arrived.

I have a new project of trying to look healthier. I'm eating and sleeping ok but today I looked in the mirror and saw Skeletor staring back at me. By the power of Grey Skull I will look healthier before I go see the parents!

Iris Chang

I don't know what compelled me to pull The Chinese in America off my bookshelf yesterday but I did and I finished it off. I had started it while I was away in Thailand and Taiwan this previous summer and it had been shelved when I got home. This morning I was reminded of a few short story ideas that had sprung up while I read the last chapter and was on line reseraching them...

Of course one of the main sites I visit for news on my asian brothers and sisters is Angry Asian Man's blog. It linked me to a beautifully writtle article on Iris Chang at Salon.com

Amazing Race

Since Russ missed AR tonight I guess it's my job to do the summary. I have a tough time telling apart the teams becuase there are still so many and so many of them are white. They started off in Africa and then had to go to Berlin where they did various things. There was sausage making and beer drinking, and then go-kart racing. I think that is everything.

There was huge drama with the abuser and his victim. She was freaking out but they came in 2nd. The tall dark haired boring couple came in first. I think the other boring couple (models?) came in third. I don't remember which teams were next and Bolo and his woman were last.

I forget what happens in next week's episode.

My Messy House

It's strange how certain habits translate into other things. For example my lack of discipline makes my house very messy. I don't have a system for tidying up after myself (I guess I wasn't paying attention in kindergarten), so the house is so messy. I've been tryign to be clean. Many of the people I hang out with are very clean people. It's starting to rub off a bit on me, for example for the most part I'll hang up my jacket and put away my shoes now when i get home.

But that is really as far as it goes. I need to get right down to it and clean from the bottom up. Make sure everything has a place and that everything is organized. It is a daunting task but I have 9 days until I go to see my family. I think I can do it!

If anyone has some cleaning tips or some house organization tips, please share them with me. I know nothing!

The Green Bay Packers and how they Influence my Love Life...

Enter: Dodgeball.

Enter: his team GB--whom my Daddy says, "kind of stink this year".

Enter: Me.

Brett Farvre QB's his 200th regular season game...blah blah blah...weeks later GB loses (to a really strong team). I lose it.

Exit: Dodgeball.

This weekend I'm over at Milla and Ruby's watching tv. We switch on the game and it's tied 13 all. 6 seconds left, GB kicks a field goal to win the game.

Enter: Dodgeball?

Could GB be an okay team afterall? Maybe they're just working out a few kinks?

now it's my turn...

I would like to echo the sentiments of my fellow bloggers...and thrown in on this malise pot. I have been feeling it too. Has SAD begun to effect us already?

Nothing excites me today, not even the Sunday Times which Milla was kind enough to lend me this afternoon. There are no movies I want to watch, no books I want to read, nothing that I want to write. I got a lot of vital things off of my list, so there is not a lot to do. I just need to mail the Chrismast cards, but the thought of stepping outside does not excite me either.

I'm museless, passionless, and inspirationless.

Weekend Roundup

It's Sunday night already! It feels like it was just Friday. If I blink it might suddenly be Wednesday. Friday had been designated Power Day...hence the msn name Princess of Power. Dodge had suggested it in pre-pre-emptive strike convo and I thought it would be a good idea. I went through a lot of things on my To Do list, including sending one resume out. Right before my Power Brunch with Junky I got a call back for an interview this Thrusday. Power Day was paying off.

That evening and Saturday evening were full of Douchbagish revelations, neither good nor bad, but quite interesting. Since his move into the hood I have been seeing a little more of him (totally disregard that post where I said I wouldn't talk about relationships).

Today k&k visited and they brought me tea and some creative energy. I started to crochet a belt for my sweater that I feel hangs too open in the front. It's a pretty ugly belt, but I like it. It's about half done. I also worked on some Christmas cards (mostly for family friends). I managed to salvage previous years unused ones and I hope that I'm not sending the same one I sent last year. The fact that I can't remember leads me to believe that the recipient won't remember either. So I'm safe there.

All and all a low key--yet pretty productive weekend.

Kerri has the most awesome sense of style and I've loved watching it become more and more refined as she grows up, it's really cool to see the transition. As long as I have known them the have both been really creative. Kerri makes clothes and accessories (availbie on e-bay...you can check out what she has up now... she will put up more stuf fin the new year.) She is goign to make me hair things. I'm very excited!

Ow! My Eye!

Was eating some left over pizza this morining for breakfast and I sprinkled some chilli on top for some more flavour. I've been craving spicy so much these days. I've slowly been working my way through this jar of peppers right now. So the pizza was great, so hot that my nose was runny. Then I rubbed my left eye. Ouch...burning. There must me something in my eye. I rub it again! Burning increases. Suddenly my eyeball is on fire. I have to fight the urge to gouge my own eye out while cursing the chilli. OW!

This and That

I really don't like my new template. yes it is nice and yes it is the layout I want but there is just something off. i want to poke my eyes out everytime I look at it. I highly dislike it.

So I'm sitting here staring at Dodgeball's name on my msn. I don't know exactly what it will accomplish. Actually, it is accomplishing a lot, I'll force myself to get up and do stuff and tell myself, once i'm done doing this, I can go back and stare at his msn name for a designated amount of time. And when that time is up I'm back up doing things again.

Been trying to find some more music but haven't had the time to really sit down and listen to stuff. As Ruby and Milla will tell you I've just had this Toad the Wet Sprocket song (Crazy World), on repeat for the past 48 hours or so. I finally decided to make a disc but couldn't just have one song on it. The following is the track listing, favourite lyric, and why I like it.

1. Toad the Wet Sprocket-Crazy World
"In the air I'm sensing a change in the weather
In the end the path is clear
Burying it won't stop it breathing forever
Underground it takes to root"
-I enjoy social commentary and underdog stories. The Peltier case sucked me in (see side bar)

2. Bush (Stones cover)- Wild Horses (acoustic)
"I know I dreamed you, a sin and a lie
I have my freedome, but I don't have much time"
-I love the passion....wild horses couldn't drag me away. Hot!

3. Wilco- Jesus, Ect.
"You can rely on me honey
You can come by anytime you want"
-Simple and honest.

4.Pete Yorn- Crystal Village
"You would never have the time
I would love to change your mind
You were there
And it was good in the beginning"
-reminds me of the Douchebag days (I know I'm hopeless).

5.Stereophonics- Nothing Precious at All
"I've been people watching again
I think they watch me too"
-I love Kelly Jones' raspy voice, just about every Stereophonics song is great becuase of it.

6. Hot Hot Heat- Talk to me, Dance with me
"You are my only girl, but you're not my owner, girl."
-What Dodgeball was probabaly thinking last night.

7. Oasis- Songbird
"Whispered in my ear the things I like
Then she flew away into the night"
-I had to stick one of my old favourites in there.

Ok. So can I go back to staring now?

Late Night Walks

I've been taking late night walks these past few nights. I bundle up like it's the artic, choose a destination and leisurly walk towards it. It has been nice, I love how crips and clean the air feels at 1am. It's so quiet, nobody is around and most things I need are availible in 24 hours places (namely shoppers or convience stores). For the sake of saftey I usually forgo the CD player, but it's nice. It leave time to think or even not think and just enjoy the outdoors (as much as you can with you live in the middle of the city).

See Spot Run. Run Spot Run!

So right after I said I wasn't going to talk about relationships I'm going to talk about relationships. I decided to stop seeing Dodgeball. For lots of intangible reasons. On one hand, I freaked out about liking someone. We all saw what happened with Douchebag. I pushed him away as soon as I sensed myself liking him too much. On the other hand, I exercised the lessons I've learned thus far. I have a better sense of what I want and how much I can give. Granted I was being a little guarded with this pre-emptive strike...but still at least I learned my lessons...and i'm attempting to apply them.

Peeved

I’m kind of peeved--but it is my own fault. I found out tonight that Dr. Evil has been accessing my blog so the things that he said were not out of thin air. People can say a lot of things but mean none of it. He would constantly express how he didn’t cross my boundaries and wants not to be one of those people that I refer to as annoying or stalkerish (this may be the wrong word but it's all I can think of right now cos i'm pissed). But somehow he is doing so. I’m not sure how but he did pass boundaries and he did make me feel uncomfortable in certain respects.

He did know what was going on cos he was here and didn’t let me know that he was here. I’m not sure how he accessed my blog, he but he’s a clever person. Hence the Dr. Evil name. Apparently he is no longer reading this now. But still. I don’t like when my freedom is being infringed. I was suspicious from the onset and I should have trusted my instincts.

I thought I might be a bad idea to mention anything about my private life pertaining to dating on my blog. And I suppose it was. What I have said so far will be all I ever say on the dating subject. No more Dr. Evil. No more Mr. Dodgeball. Maybe a little Douchebag cos I just can't help myself. But otherwise. That subject is closed.

New Part

My face has always been asymmetrical. One side is bigger than the other and one eye and ear is higher than the other. It's a very slight differece with the eye and ear but the bigger half of the face has been much more noticable. I dislike how crooked I look in photos.

Today I have found a solution. I woke up and my hair was parted differently, a little off to the left side (the crooked side) and it helps cover up the big jaw bone that is jutting out. So this, added with me trying to sleep more on that side of my face (that is my theory on why one side is flatter than the other), will hopefully help lessen the crookedness.

This is my last pack! I swear!

I thought the pack of cigs I bought on Friday would be my last pack but I was wrong, after almost 24 hours with out a cig I caved and went out and bought a pack. smoked half of one cig and feelin ill now.

My plan is to properly ration this last pack and then be done with it all. I know, you've all heard this before. But this time I really am goign to be a quitter!! The episode of SATC where Carrie is in LA (where no one smokes) keeps on going thru my head. People keep on telling her no smoking and finally she has it and says, "i'm sorry sir, I'm addicted!"

party review

The last guests have just left Milla and Ruby's place and I'm about to download the photos and waiting for Junky to return to our msn convo (she went to get water). They get together was nice, Ruby's friends are so nice, and we got to see a few old friends.

Junky looked really really really hot in her boots and her sexy shirt. Fish was looking nice and trim and he was kind enough to bring my dvds back. Tyger and D were looking incredibly scrumptious in their winter garb...made me realise that maybe winter might not be so bad.

I found that I had a hard time circulating and making sure I spent enough time with all the people there. I always felt like I was rushed or didn't get a chance to talk enough to everyone.

I was expecially impressed why Tyger told me that he approved of Mr. Dodgeball and hoped that it would develop into something. This is rare, Ty never likes anyone! Oh and of course our hostesses, Milla and Ruby were looking fab! Good times!

Friday Night

It's friday night and everyone else is out. I on the other hand am at home blogging, my thrid blog of the night. I was watching this WB show, 1 Tree Hill over at Milla's earlier this evening. There were two back to back epis. She used to watch the show and it confused me. They would never tell us what it was and and I couldn't tell the charachters apart. But now i'm hooked too.

Every friday night while everyone is out dancing and partying and dating. I'm at home watching 1 Tree Hill, a teen drama. The show is really angsty, I love that! So much happens in one show, there is so much emotion and drama in it. Today I almost couldn't watch the two episodes the drama factor was almost too high, but I couldn't tear myself away and listend to the rest of the show on my TV when I came home (i don't get Prime clearly on my tv because I don't have rabbit ears).

My Navel Ring

I was speaking to Junky tonight and we were talking about how in theory clones would have no belly buttons. Then I thought if i were a clone with no belly button I woudln't be the same because I would not have a navel ring. Then I thought, who even has those anymore. They are so mainstream they are just like earrings now. At one point in my life i had 7 piercings, 6 in the ears and the belly button one. Now there are only 5 and i'm questioning all of them.

When does one grow too old to have these things? I was 18 when had my navel pierced. So when do I take it out? Do I leave it in forever? Will I be one of the first wave of seniors that has body piercings? It's a strange thing to think about cos it has been part of me for almost 7 years now. I haven't been thinking of taking it out, but I don't show it as often as I used to. In fact my new thing as of this year has been finding really long undershirts and layering them with my other shirts to make them long enough to cover that area. So if i were to take it out when would be the best time?

Be friendly to your neighbors

I was walking down the hall to Milla's and I could hear someone else coming down the hall. Rarely do you see someone in our building but when you do we usually smile and such, after all we're neighbor's right? Well this lady just walked right by me as if I wasn't even there. It reminded me of an episode of Star Trek where some accident leaves Geordi and Ro invisible to the rest of the crew. Would it have killed that lady to look at me? Or even smile? Be nice to your neighbors, it makes for a much friendlier environment.

What's my type?

No it's not one of those Cosmo quizes. Dodgeball was saying to me last night that he was not typically my type. I asked him how so? And he replied that his style was not the same as the guys (he has seen pictures of 2) that I had dated. I said it was untrue, he is my type, tall and white.

All joking aside. I suppose I do have a type....besides tall and white. I told him I like charismatic men, that combo of outgoingness (is that a word?), humour, and that certain je ne sais quoi (did i spell that right?) totally does it for me. But that can't be all.

I figured the best way to figure out my 'type' would be to write down 3 or 4 favourite qualities that I liked about crushes, previous boys and imaginary boys to see if any of them have anything in common. I was talking to C earlier while she procrastinated and she mentioned that Jesus fit the bill, tall, white and charismatic. Lets see what the others bring to the table:

-Mr. Dodgeball: sweet, thoughtful, honest and amazingly funny
-Douchebag: hilarious, intelligent, driven and romantic
-Huntington Van Dell III: cultured, crazy, talented and flirtatious
-Obi-Wan Kenobi:logical, pratical, wise, and his dry sense of humour
-The Joker: creative, twisted sense of humour, and a great eye for fashion
-Batman (not to be confused with Bruce Wayne): inventive, smrt, dependable and strong

Other than being 6'1" and up (except obi-wan) do these dudes have anything else in common? I know some of you know these people (namely the first three) what do you think? I think that I've just comfirmed my statement. I like 'em funny, smart and tall (and maybe a little bit romantic with a dash of style). Does everyone else have a certain type that they tend to go for?

Blogs on Regis & Kelly

Everyday Regis and Kelly have this giveaway thing where they ask a question about the previous day's show and viewers get a chance to win. Today's question was about blogs, blogger wrote an article about this actually, how blog was the most looked up word at Webster's this year. The question was something like, this on line journal name was the most looked up word on line this year. And the lady didn't get it. Her answer was anchovy.

Sci-fi Forever

Last night was the second time that Mr. Dodgeball and I have rented a flick. And it is also the second time that I made a major pitch for a sci-fi film. Last time we looked at a lot of films, and I ended up convincing him he wanted to watch Equilibrium with Christian Bale. This time, we had School of Rock and Supersize me picked out, but then I saw it, The Chronicles of Riddick. I knew that no one else would let me see that, and that my parents dont' have satillite anymore. So if I didn't see it now, I wasn't going to be seeing it anytime soon.

I'd have to say that I'm unfair with choosing movies. For example, yesterday my ultimatum was, "Riddick or Love Actually, I want to see Love Actually, it's a British Romantic comedy...or...maybe Riddick would be okay." Once you hold up a so-so sci-fi film vs. a romantic comedy to a man, the sci-fi film will win in most cases. So Supersize me was put down and Riddick and School of Rock won.

We didn't get to School of Rock, but Riddick wasn't bad. As I was watching it I was thinking, gee this is a lot like Pitch Black. Well duh! It's part 2!! The film could have been a lot worse, they did it quite well. The pacing was a little slow, with Riddick on the prison planet for too long and we don't know what the baddies are up to for a logn time. But otherwise it was okay. Bonus: Karl Urban was in it, with a funky ass hair do. I liked that very much.
