I'm in Love!
After seeing this on the Neiman Marcus website, a Valentino crystal trim ipod case (it has a silver metal case with clear crytal accents, a chain strap and a kiss lock side, retailing at about $840 US), my dirty old rubber ipod skin just doesn't look the same.
I won't make the mistake of bejewelling it myself though. I did that with my mobile (which is currently still not fuctional) and once the crazy glue dried, it didn't look so hot. I'll leave it to Valentino to do the bewelleing.

moviefestAfter cupcake making today turned into a moviefest. Watched Sin City (finally!), it was great, I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was assaulted afterwards. Put in Collateral afterwards but just couldn't get into it so we left the house to theatre hop. Brothers Grimm was alright, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be--but pretty funny. Then we snuck into Red Eye, which was much slower and much less scarier that I thought it would be. I still love Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy though. Nothing was gonna live up to Sin City though. Clive Owen...Yummmy!!!!! I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen--even in the parts Clive Owen wasn't in.

yummy!
I don't bake enough. I enjoy doing it, but I never seem to find the time for it. These are white cupcakes with rainbow bits in them. They are very tasty with tea.
Char showed me the wedding photos that the photographer took, they look great! It's like out of a dream. They're so pretty.
Milla should be back from her trip soon. I've been flooding her inbox with emails that I know she probabaly won't read until she comes home.

you must be this tall to be able to walk by yourself in crowded areasI don't know why parents don't carry their small children. Just because they walk doesn't mean they should be walking. Why let your small children walk in crowded areas where grown ups can knock them over? Why let them walk when they're just slowing every one down? Why waste the energy to stand there and tell your kid to hurry up when you can just pick them up and carry them? I don't know what up with that. If your child isn't taller than my hip (about a meter) you should be carrying them in crowded areas! Get them out of our friggin way so we can get where we're going without having to be evil ppl who push over children.

I have the Wardrobe of a TeenagerSo after many long months of searching for a job, I now have frigging job interviews coming out of the wahzoo. This is great since I was beginning to consider phone sex operator as a career option. Luckily I won't have to go that route, but I've got one problem now. I have no work clothes.
Now I see you all laughing. Me? Without clothes? I know. It sounds funny, I have more clothes than my closet can handle! But I have slowly come to realise that my wardrobe is entirly comprised of denim, mini skirts, and belly baring tops. This is a slight problem. I have about 3 pairs of pants that could be considered work pants, and a few skirts which aren't really an option because I'm not a fan of pantyhose (is that one word or two?) As for tops...I have about 3. Mixing and matching will only give me a few outfits. I don't do button up shirts because I have large peasant lady shoulders (good for carrying baskets of rice + sorghrum and whatever else my ppl would grow) and I look like a linebacker in those professional button down things.
I also have no money to spend on clothes. So I have a fashion challenge. Making grown up outfits out of the clothes I already own. I'm gonna have to dig deep, but I think I can do it. Bye bye bohemian tops and cute t-shirts. I'll see you on days off. The good news is that I'm good in the shoe and handbag department. No worries there.

I lub the Argos and Pinball ClemonsNot because they are in first place (that's a bonus) but because they are doing something to help the community. After all the gun violence that has been going on they've started a Stop the Violence program. Will it help? Who knows, but it's really cool that they've done that when no one else has.
Clemons said, “Anytime a police officer disrespects someone when they stop someone, that’s falling short, right?” he asked. “Anytime in any sector, we as leaders … fall short we’re saying that life or people aren’t as important as they really are. What we lost is respect. The culprit is selfishness.”
I really liked this quote about mutual respect and such. I live across from a cop shop and there have been numerous times that my friends have been spoken to disrespectfully because they are standing around where the po po have thought was too close to the station. Every time that happened I lost more respect for them. Why say anything to my friends? Because you can? Because you want to exercise your power? If they harass people who aren't even criminals than how are the treating the people who are? No wonder they have no control. They don't treat people like people. But the cop shop across from me isn't the best example of cops since it's notoriously known as the courrupt station. There are lots of nice police out there.
But anyhow...go Argos! I hope their program works !

the potato theif and hiter youthLast night my friend Nightwing and I went to grab some food for a BBQ. We were excited to use the self checkout--having never scanned produce from there before. When we started to scan things the machine bleeped and we had to call someone over fix the issue. Then we scanned the other items before NW swipped his visa to pay. I looked in the bag and we were missing something, I turned and NW still had the potatoes in his hands. We forgot to scan them! I took them from him and just stuffed them into the bag. I'm hoping Loblaws isn't missing the 3 small potatoes! When we ate them they tasted extra good. Mmmmm.
On the way from the subway I walked by this poster in the Atrium of two cute white kids. I don't know what the poster was for because I was distracted by the little Hitler mustaches that had been drawn on them.

cousins galore & other storiesSo speak of the devil, a few hours after I mention that I've got to call my little cuz she calls me. We've made plans for next weekend and she's got my favourite cigs for me! Yay. I've been such a bad big cousin, when she called i didn't even ask how she was, and how she has eaten and if she needs anything. I have a phobia of answering the phone these days. 9 out of 10 times it's one of those creditor ppl calling and demanding $$. Damn them.
Yesterday I was going through these double door and two kids were coming out. Usually when you're coming out of a door and somoene else is coming in you move to the side and go out the one door while the other person goes through the other. But neither of these two guys moved. I was thinking, what the hell, get out of my fucking way and go out of the other door. It's only logical right? But when I put my hand on the handle I looked closer at the dude who wouldn't move and though, oh he's mentally handicapped he doesn't know. So I started to move. But then he started talking to his friend and he wasn't mentally handicapped. So I was holding the door open for some stupid asshole kid who wouldn't get out of my way to let me in the doors. I shoved my way through and bumped him a little bit and the ass had the nerve to give me a dirty look. learn some manners you ass. First of all, it's common curteousy, second it I'm older, and third I'm a woman. All these reasons give me the right of way. Stupid kids.
The 17th was my parent's 26th wedding anniversary. We all forgot. I rememberd yesterday because it was my estranged bestfriend's birthday so I emailed both my folks as a reminder. My Daddy got the email but I didn't think my mom did so I had to call her to give her a heads up before my Daddy called to say Happy Anniversary. I got her but on time but got in trouble for reminding them her one day late anyways.

yay! more family!I don't get to see my mother's side of the family too much. Last summer was my first visit to Taiwan in over 10 years. Then I got to see one of my 50 million cousins a few months later when her orchestra was playing here. Then I got to see my fave cousins again in Russia.
I was just laughing with my cousins in Russia over MSN about the Heritage collection coming to the AGO when my cousin said that he's gonna be going to Alaska (to visit another one of our cousins--we're everywhere) in December. He may make a whole North American trip out of it and come visit me as well. One of the cousins from Taiwan might come with him. I can't wait. It's nice to get to see them so often now. It used to be every 10 years.
My favourite thing to do to my family when they visit me: get them high! (can i say that here? is it incriminating? Comon' it's an authentic Canadian experience!)
Oh that reminds me, one of my little cousins is here visiting her boyfriend. I've got to call that girl! I've been MIA since I got back from Russia!

Russia part 6: Homeward Bound
We returned back to Moscow in the evening and spent the night packing. Me and my mom had to switch suitcases, I needed her bigger one and she took my free spirit suitcase that likes to travel on it's own. I'm sure it was itching to get away since it travelled by itself 10 days earlier. The next day while we were loading up our luggage the elevator took off by itself. And guess which suitcase was in the elevator!
The airport wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The Russians were strict about who comes into their country but they dont' give a shit if you're leaving. We walked through a couple of checkpoints and got more stamps. There were so many friggin stamps. Everytime you checked into the hotel you had to give your passport to the hotel so taht they could stamp a sheet that they stuck inside. And when you leave the country they stamp the sheet and then keep it. Me and my mom wondered what sort of tasty meals they were goign to serve us on the Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt. We are simple people. The fact taht there was real cutlery amused us and we pretended to stab each other with the real butter knife they gave us and giggled. My mom decided she was goign to sleep all the way to Franfurt (4 hour flight) so she got a glass of wine and got tanked. When she got up to go to the bathroom I drank a bit so I woudln't have to drag her through the airport.

Did i mention how much I didn't like Germany in the first Russia post? Just incase I didn't I'll say it again here. Everyone is smug! I hated it and couldn't wait to get out of the airport. I grabbed some stuff up at Duty Free and endured all the security (cos our flight was going into Washington DC) and then me and my mom played pick out the US Marshall in the waiting area. On the flight we watched, Guess Who (pretty good!), Fever Pitch (not so good), and Liminy Snicket (strange!), my mom fell asleep but I didn't. When we finally got to DC we had to go through customs. The line was soooooooooo long. If my flight wasn't delayed I would have missed it. Then I sent my mom off on her flight to LA, I cried like a baby (like I always do).
I walked 10 miles over to my gate to find that my plane had been delayed again, so I bought a calling card and chatted with people for an hour before I decided that I HAD to find the smoking lounge. I walked about 9 miles back to where I saw the little smoke filled, glass encased room and asked everyone if they had a lighter, while I tore my carton from Moscow duty free open. No one in the room had a lighter thanks to security, so I got a light off of this dude's cigarette. He was in the army reserve and was telling me how he was going for weapons and hand to hand combat training and he was really excited about it cos he just found out that his daughter was not really his daughter and that the kid's mom had been playing him for 3 years now and so and and so forth. Soon it was a huge party and I was sad to have to leave to get on my flight. People are so strange! And so interesting! And I was happy to be conversing in English again. Da, Nyet, and Spasiba will only get you so far in Russia.
Flight back to TO was ubershort, I was out of the airport in no m ore than 10 minutes after we landed. There was no line at customs and when I got out my new obediant suitcase was sitting there waiting for me. When I spoke to my dad a few hours later he said that they had been waiting for my mom's suitcase forever. HA!
thus concludes my trip to Russia. I'm surprised that I remembered that much! I'm sure I'm missing some. My memory isn't really what it used to be. If you want to see piccs email me (click on my name in the sidebar) and i'll send y'all the link! I'm not posting it up here because of certain stalkers. You know who you are.

Russia Part 5
Our last few days in Russia comprised of a road trip through more rural Russia. We went to this little town called Vladamir(click on the link to see the places I visited) and then stayed in another town Suzdal.
In Vladimir we went to this church that was attacked by Mongols in the 1200s. There was a big dioramma that if you put money in would light up and tell a story...and the story was in English! Wow! Then we went to a few other chruches. There was one that was a nunnery as well and we weren't supposed to take pictures of the nuns so that was my mission while we were there. To get stealth photos of the nuns. At this other chruch we were shown where some guy was beaten to death (I'm not sure why), when Oliga's mobile phone rang and she answered I ran off cos I was bored and had nuns to take photos of.
In Suzdal we stayed on this cool ranch/resort kind of place. It was all brand new wooden everything and non yellow water! There were Russian baths there, that comprise of you sitting in a sauna until you can't take it anymore and then jumping into a vat of cold water. I didnt' partake in a Russian bath because Aunt Flo was visiting me that week, but even if she wasn't I wasn't going to do that to myself! Instead I hung out with my cousins and ate some slow cooked meat, played with the cats that were on the resort and wandered around. My little cousins wanted to ride the ATV's that were availible so we tried to do that, but they were really complicated!! They weren't automatic and you had to do all this shit to it, I coudln't figure it out. Perhaps if the dude wasn't standing next to me/chasing me yelling Russian I would have figured it out. Instead of hand gesturing he just kept on speaking louder and louder, as if he would become more conphrensable if his voice got lounder. At one point I was sure he called me an idiot, but I was thinking the same. When my other cousin came over to give the ATV a try he coudlnt' do it either. So I felt like less of a moron. They were just f'd up ATV's.
The next day we went to a few other churches, these ones mostly wooden. From what I could observe, most of the trees in Suzdal were birches and everything was made out of birch. The houses, the chruches, the furniture, and so on. It's not too differnt from Canada; green and lots of space. On our ride home we stopped at a rest stop and there was a gypsy wedding reception. The gypsies were all decked out! It looked like a ton of fun, but I kept my purse clutched in my hand, since pretty much everyone but me had been targetted my gypsy pickpockets on the trip. I wasn't goign to push my luck. I can now say that I was the only one who escaped Russia without being pickpocketed. Probably cos I had this pissed off look on my face most of the time, from lack of nicotine.

Russia Part 4--St. Petersburg
The overnight train to St. Petersburg was exciting, but it wasn't a long enough trip to get much sleep. The blinds in our sleeper car kept on falling down and I was obsessivly putting it back up. I've developed a environtmental perfectionist syndrome like Milla, where the lighting has to be right, the blinds have to be straight, and the pillows in the right place. Also I was afraid that the curtain rod would fall off and poke me in the eye when I was sleeping.
My mom and I got the whole room to ourselves, while my cousins had to squish four to a car. We slid the door shut immediatly cos the rowdy guys next to us had all peeled off their shirts and started drinking. When I went out to use the toilets they all came over and tried to start speaking to me. Through gestures and broken english and russian I finally gathered taht they wanted me to join them to drink vodka. Now I would have gone if they weren't all glassy eyed, topless, and sweaty. My mom yelled at me when I went back into the car for talking to him. They talked me!! She took the shoelace off my Chucks and tied the door shut while we slept.
At one point the train stopped and there were fire works in the countryside sometime. Finally I fell asleep in my top bunk. After what seemed like seconds but was actually 3 hours we were in St. Petersburg...at 5am! We met one of my cousin's friends who took us to his place, where I fell asleep right away.
I think our day started at 10ish when our little bus came to pick us up. Our new tourguide, Anna, spoke much better Chinese. I was happy that I could at least figure out half of what was going on. Our first stop was Catherine's Summer Palace where we stood in line forever to get in. There was a group of giant Americans behind us. They were all 3 times the width of everyone else. We had to wear little booties inside to protect the floor. It was fun. I slid around the entire palace. Escaped early so I could have a smoke with my cousins while my uncle looked out for my mom. By the end of the trip everyone was looking out for my mom for me while i smoked.
I think next we went to another palace, adn then to this fountain place. I think they said that Finland was across the body of water that the fountains drew their water from. It was really cool. I noticed the ppl in St. Petersburg were hotter than the ppl in Moscow. My cousin said that's probably becuase the hot ones were Scandanavian...not Russian. I think after that we got on another boat tour. St. Petersburg is so gorgeous, they call it the Venice of the North becuase it's all canals and such. All the bridges are different and have their different names. The buildings are smaller and the streets are are cobble stoned. So it was more like Europe than Moscow.
The next day we went down to this beach sort of place where I saw an old dude in a thong bathing suit. I actually think it was a Speedo that he made into a thong buy stuffing the extra mateiral in his butt. We went to a church where Peter the Great said the ground was too soft so if you travelled to St. Petersburg by foot you had to bring 1 stone, by horse 2 stones and by carriage 5 stones...to put down in front of the chruch. Then we hit the Hermitage!! I seperated from my family because I thought they would be too slow and went on a major picture spree of all the art. I was told me meet them at 2 where we entered and I was right my fam was slow...they didn't show up until 15 minute later. After the Hermitage I'm not sure what we did, I think we saw a few more churches before getting on the speed train back to Moscow.
ON the train home we saw a boy projectile vomit, a man reading my fave author, Murakami, in Russian, and we froze to death because it was incredibly cold on the train. I pigged out on these coldcuts that they gave us to eat. Everyone else found them too salty so I ate theirs too. Yum!

dude!Rob Brezny should have told me this a few years ago:
Aquarius (January 20- February 18)
When rock star Courtney Love asked me for advice about her relationship with rock star Trent Reznor a few years ago, I told her the same thing I'll tell you now: Empty your brain of everything you think you know about the person who both excites you and drives you crazy. Drop all of your fantasies and projections and expectations. As soon as you do, you will clearly see that person is not a diabolical angel whose main task in life is to rouse your obsessive thoughts, but rather a flawed human being who has only a partial resemblance to what you imagine him or her to be. When you achieve that enlightened state, then and only then will there be even a shred of hope that you two can have an authentic, vital, mutually enriching relationship.

Russia Part 3
Day 3 was the market. We went and did a bit of shopping, i got some of the things I wanted. A fur Russian hat (I have a feeling it's made from squirrel), a muffler, some other hats. I was a bit frustrated cos I wanted to keep going but everyone kept on lingering over one place that wasn't even that interesting. Then we ate and rested and went to the circus in the evening. The circus was alright, but I felt badly for the poor starving animals that were forced to perform. So I just slept through their performances.
I am frustrated by how slow my mother's side of the family is, but now i understand how much is must frustrate my mom when my dad goes so fast. With my mom's fam it's like everything is a leisure stroll. With my Daddy's it's like everything is the 100m dash. I think they've managed to find some sort of balance there.
Day 4, we went to the park for a picnic. I think this park used to be where the aristocrats lived and ppl in the royal court. Everything is in Russian, there are no translations. You'd think even the tourist areas would have things translated. But nope. In Russia, Russian is the best way and the only way. Later we strolled thru a megaplex that had an Ikea and grocery store and such. The mall attached had an ice rink. Saw a pair of shoes I wanted, but in the end i decided that white boots would not stay white long. All the stores are the same, Zara, Mango, Nike, etc...
Day 5, we did a city tour of Moscow. In the morning we went to some church, it was really pretty. Both me and my cuz were kicked out. Me for showing too much middrift (you couldn't even see my belly button! and I put a little sweater on to cover my arms cos I was in a tank top), and my cousin was kicked out for taking pictures. Next we headed off to a park where there was a lake and something happened there, but I don't know. Once again our guide...Olga (yes thats her real name, I didn't make it up...although the chinese version turned into Oli-ga), spoke chinese, but with a strong russian accent so I had no idea what she was talking about. Then we got on a boat trip down some river in Moscow, it was great, I lub boats. There were so many weddings going on! The boat let us off in front of Moscow Univeristy where we saw more weddings and then we headed back home. We packed our weekend bags and headed off for the overnight train to St. Petersburg for the weekend.

Russia Part 2
Ok I've finally looked through the notes that I took. And don't ask me what i'm doing up at 7:30 in the am.
When we got to our hotel that first night I was going to take a bath before bed but when I ran it, it came out yellow...just like in Thailand. So I opted for a shower. I know that the water was still yellow but at least I couldn't see it.
Day 2 began with a ghetto buffet breakfast thing. I just stuffed down whatever to get energy for the day. I was wearing the same clothes as the day before. The ones I had travelled in (EW!). We met our tour guide whom I quickly dubbed Frankie (short for Frankenstien's moster). He took us onto the subway to take us into the city. My card wouldn't swipe so I just ran thru the turnstyle with my mother. My first day in Moscow I was already breaking the law. We took this turbo speed escalater down to the platform. I swear we were standing on this thing for over a minute! It was so long. The stations that we stopped at were all really nice and the subways came quickly.
We took the subway into the centre of Moscow to Red Square (about the size that I thought it would be), the Kremlin (still not quite sure which building it was, we saw so many that day), St. Basil's (much smaller than I thought it would be and I kept on humming Tetris music in my head), the tresury or something or other, it had all sorts of old shit from the Russian Monarchs..the collection was amazing. Frankie rushed us through but I just wandered away from him and looked myself. He spoke Chinese but it was really bad. Now I know that I should be the last person to criticise someone's chinese cos mine sucks ass....but even I had problems understanding him and I consider myself really good with accents.
From there we went to GUM the big mall next to Red Square and window shopped. Then I think we saw a few more churches and saw the centre of the city. If you stood there and threw money over your shoulder the person who picked it up would have good luck. There was a babuska there who was fighting with everyone for the money being thrown. I picked out a nickle to throw to leave for the russians and my mother ended up picking it up. She out manouvered the babuska.
Ok. So after brief argument with my mom last night I fianlly figured out what day was what. After travelleing all over central Russia we went to the ballet. We saw Sleeping Beauty. I slept for about a 1/4 of it. Ok. Maybe I slept for more of it. The lead dude's quads and ass were hot.
Wow the days are becoming a blur now. I have to stop now because i need to go to sleep. The one big thing I've been lacking on this trip is enough sleep. And enough alone time. I'm really used to being by myself so being with other ppl 24/7 really grates on my nerves. I need my alone time. The only time I'm alone is when i'm in the toilet. And even then, that's not alwasy a guarantee.

weekend recapFriday was Tyger and D's party, now that the lock out is over I think Ty has a chance to have a social life and I'll hopefully see him more. I've got to persuade him to get on lava life (I think one of the dudes at the part is a fellow lava lifer). Had a good time and met some nice folks (one in particular--with an irish accent).
Saturday was lazy...I think. I'm having a major memory lapse right now. I think we did dim sum, then walked out to Queen West for a healthy smoothie at Fresh and some window shopping. Then home for Milla's friend's first night spinning at Papi's Lounge. DJ Bugzy was great, should be a better party next time...with me in better footwear. Sure the gold pumps look great, but they were like some sort of fashion torture. I no longer have skin on my heels.
Sunday was lazy again, had brunch with Milla, then hit Chinatown for some chinese buns and fruit. Then we went swimming and had a late BBQ before bed.

I'm definitly sickI was up at 6am this morning. When that happens I'm either ill or catching a flight.
I thought I'd try to recall the trip. My parents called me bright and early to say they were headed to the airport. That was great to know seeing as I didn't plan on getting up for another 3 hours. So I crawled back to bed slept a bit longer and then was off to the airport to catch my first flight to Washington DC to meet my mom. I got to the airport pretty early thinking that a flight in to DC would have heavy security since the London bombings but there was nothing really. Except a thunderstorm. My mom's flight into DC had left before the weather so she would arrive but the ppl at United didn't think that I would make it so they redicrected me to Chicago...the opposite way that I was supposed to travel...and then I would have to catch a later flight to Frankfurt by myself.
There was no way to contact my mom and I didn't want to risk missing my connection so I went ahead and switched to the Chicago flight and figured I'd meet up with her eveutnally in Moscow. In the back of my mind I was wondering about my luggage. Would I lose it because of all the changes I would have to make? But I didn't want to think about that just yet. The night before I was watching The Untouchables so it was funny that I ended up in Chicago. That was going to be one of the only things I found funny for a while.
My flight to Franfurt was BORING. I watched Robots, Barbershop 2, and some of Sahara and then I coudln't sleep and was all grumpy. When I ran to my gate in Frankfurt the first thing I see is teh back of my mom's head. I start yelling Mom! Mom! And of course every woman my mother's age that speaks english turned around to look at me. Except for my mother! She had spoken to my dad on the plane telephone and found out that I would be meeting her in Moscow. But her flight had been delayed too and we were gonna catch the same Lufthansa flight to Mowcow togehter...or so we thought. I arrived too late so I was put on standby. My mother was already on the flight. But we both decided that if i coudlnt' get on we would just wait for the next flight together.
We caught up while we waited and as I thought, I didn't make it onto the flight. My mom gave up her seat and the Germans were tryign to tell us somethign but we didn't understand. Finally they told us that we were getting some sort of compendsaton for not taking this flight. Euros or Lufthansa vouchers. Of course we choose the Euros...we got 200 each. That funded our the entertainment for our stop over. Finally it was time for our flight into Moscow. We arrived around 7:30 Moscow time and then had to stand in the customs line for almost 2 hours! That's worse that in America. Ther was no line. There was jsut a big blob of ppl in front of the customs booth.
As I had already learned in Germany, there is no such thing as personal space in Russia. If there is room or not. Ppl will come up right behind you and stick their crotch in your ass. If they dont' someone else will just stand in that space btwn. Eventually we made it thru customs. There was my mom's suitcase sitting there waiting for her. But mine was no where to be seen. AFter looking for it for 10 minutes I tried to find out where ti report my lost luggage but I could not communicate with anyone. Finally I found the right counter and had to explain that I was tossed all around on different flights and had no luggage and that i wanted my luggage delivered to me asap when it arrived from wherever it was. This took forever because of the language barrier and because I had to fill out 4 forms...all almost carbon copies of the last. Finally I had to point at what my luggage looked like on a page with tons of luggage, go to this one place to get this one thing stamped, go to this other place to get this other thing signed, then back to the original counter to do somethign or other, i was out. And there was my cousin looking totally ragged. The poor guy had to wait at the airport all day for us. WE were supposed to have arrived a little after noon and we didn't get there until 8 pm.
The whole family went out to dinner, where I sat looking pissed off mostly because I had been up for over 24 hours and now I still had to sit and eat and be well...awake. And this was the beginning of my trip. More when i consult my notes.
